Breaking Down the Pediatric CBC

OUTCOMES:

1) Identify the key components of a pediatric CBC and interpret common abnormalities using age-appropriate reference ranges.

2) Distinguish between major causes of pediatric anemia—including iron deficiency anemia, sickle cell disease, and thalassemias—and recognize when hemoglobin electrophoresis is indicated.

 3) Be able to apply a structured approach to abnormal CBC findings and determine appropriate situations for referral to pediatric hematology through case-based examples.
