Overview
This one-day symposium presented by Lurie Children's Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics is designed for pediatricians, family physicians and other healthcare providers. it will showcase the latest approach, updates and research related to several common patient issues confronted by the primary care provider related to adolescent and teen health. Our speakers will address health concerns, share cases and offer guidelines on how to manage these patients. Join us for a diverse and useful day of topics.

Objectives
- Identify abnormal menstrual pattern in teens
- Develop an evaluation for common causes of abnormal menses
- Utilize a patient-centered approach to contraceptive counseling and management in adolescents
- Recognize and manage common challenges related to contraceptive use
- Explain different presentations and differential diagnoses of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
- Explore options for treatment of ARFID in multidisciplinary setting
- Define PrEP and its mechanisms for oral and long-acting injectable
- Identify adolescent populations at increased risk for HIV acquisition and describe current PrEP regimens appropriate for adolescents
- Outline key steps for PrEP initiation, monitoring, and discontinuation
- Explain key aspects of emotional, social and cognitive development that influence how teens use and respond to social media and social media trends among adolescents
- Analyze the psychological and social impacts of social media and recognize warning signs and risk behaviors with social media exposure and strategies for healthy use
- Articulate the trends in use of nicotine and cannabis products
- Identify steps to address nicotine and cannabis use in their patients
- Identify signs and symptoms of disordered eating in adolescents with “normal” or elevated BMI’s
- Develop a script for discussing weight management with adolescents that simultaneously promotes metabolic health and minimizes weight bias
- Utilize appropriate methods to screen for adolescent substance use
- Engage in brief interventions with adolescents who use substances
- Discuss importance and benefits of gender affirming care for young people
- Describe the core components of gender affirming care
