Pediatric Pearls Ear Nose & Throat (ENT)

Overview

This one-day symposium presented by the Division of Otolaryngology is designed for healthcare providers interested in learning about the latest recommendations for the identification and, in some cases, management of certain ear, nose, and throat conditions and diseases. Our panel of distinguished speakers will address health concerns, share cases and offer guidelines on how to manage certain patients. In addition, they will provide the latest research, technology and approaches to some of the more complex diseases in children and teens.

Objectives

  • Discuss the etiology and workup of snoring and sleep disordered breathing
  • Describe the medical and surgical management of obstructive sleep disordered breathing in children
  • Discuss the pathophysiology of eustachian tube dysfunction in middle ear disease
  • Explain the medical and surgical management of the different forms of otitis media
  • Identify various causes of pediatric chronic nasal obstruction and understand treatment options for each diagnosis
  • Discuss the medical and surgical strategies in the management of pediatric chronic nasal obstruction
  • Recognize the indications for further allergic or immunologic workup, or other testing, in patients with nasal obstruction
  • Discuss the medical and surgical management of pediatric chronic rhinosinusitis.
  • Explain the medical and surgical approaches to treating children and adolescents with benign thyroid pathology
  • List the medical and surgical approaches to treating children and adolescents with thyroid cancer
  • Describe the presentation, workup, and management of nontuberculous mycobacterial cervicofacial lymphadenitis
  • Discuss the etiology, workup and management of benign congenital head and neck masses including thyroglossal duct cyst, dermoid cysts, and branchial cleft lesions
  • Describe the definitive diagnosis of congenital hearing loss and hearing loss in children
  • Discuss the diagnostic modalities and treatment for different etiologies of hearing loss in children
  • Discuss the candidacy and process for cochlear implantation in children
  • Explain the clinical risk factors and manifestations of various airway lesions including laryngomalacia, subglottic stenosis, tracheomalacia
  • Discuss the medical and surgical management of various airway lesions including laryngomalacia, subglottic stenosis, tracheomalacia
  • Differentiate the types of dysphagia (oral, pharyngeal, combined, esophageal) and the diagnostic modalities available including bedside evaluation of swallow, FEES, and videofluoroscopy
  • Discuss the value of multidisciplinary care in managing pediatric dysphagia including feeding strategies, medications, and surgical therapy
  • Identify signs and symptoms of tongue ties & lip-ties
  • Distinguish between the different types of tongue ties and their treatment options
