Overview
This one-day symposium presented by the Division of Cardiology & Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery is designed for healthcare providers interested in discussing the latest recommendations for the identification and in some cases, management of certain cardiac-related conditions and diseases. Our panel of distinguished speakers will address health concerns, share cases and offer guidelines on how to manage certain patients. In addition, they provide the latest research, technology and appraoches to some of the more complex and congenital cardiac diseases in children and teens.

Objectives
- Summarize KD guidelines
- Identify clinical pearls to aid in the diagnosis and management of KD
- Empower attendees to make a difference in the short and long-term outcomes of children with KD
- Explain the use of real time echocardiography in procedures
- Discuss the neonatal management of PDA and pulmonary vein stenosis
- Discuss options for valve replacement in children with congenital heart disease
- Discuss common CHD lesions that can be diagnosed by fetal echocardiography
- Describe the fetal echocardiographic findings that predict risk of hemodynamic instability in a newborn
- Describe resources needed to take care of newborns with low risk vs high risk CHD
- Describe the anatomy and physiology of hypoplastic left heart syndrome
- Discuss stem cells and their role in pediatric cardiology today and in the future
- Provide an overview of heart failure and defining VADs
- Recognize indications for placement of VADs
- Review device selection and specific management
- Review outcomes of patients supported on device
- Discuss the discharge management of patient with a VAD
- Recognize the short and long-term medical challenges faced by children with single ventricle congenital heart disease
- Identify areas of partnership between the cardiology team and the primary medical home in the care of these complex patients
- Discuss the long-term neurodevelopmental and psychosocial challenges faced by children with important congenital heart disease and their families, particularly this high-risk population
- Review the current AHA/AAP guidelines for neurodevelopmental surveillance, screening, evaluation, and treatment in this population
- Review common causes of non-cardiac chest pain in young child/adolescent
- Review cardiac causes of chest pain in young child/adolescent
- Perform an evaluation of chest pain and make a proper referral when warranted
- Discus the latest guidelines in cholesterol screening
- Review the type of patient at highest risk for developing pediatric heart disease
- Describe the benefits of exercise medicine
- Review the physiology and associated echo findings of the neonatal transition
- Discuss indications and limitations of a neonatal echocardiogram
- Recognize echo results that may alter general pediatric care in the first months of life
