Overview
This one-day symposium presented by the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition is designed for healthcare providers interesgted in discussing the latest recommendations for the identification and in some cases, management of certain gastro-related conditions and diseases. Our panel of distinguished speakers will address health concerns, share cases and offer guidelines on how to manage certain patients. in addition, they provide the latest research, technology and appraoches to some of the more complex diseases in children and teens.

Objectives
- Identify the common conditions that may present with abdominal pain
- Develop a focused diagnostic approach for children with abdominal pain
- Discuss the pros and cons of diagnostic testing in children with functional pain
- Differentiate pediatric IBD from other conditions with abdominal pain
- Define the medical management
- Define new nutritional approaches to treat IBD
- Identify signs and symptoms of constipation and fecal incontinence in pediatrics
- Perform a focused history and physical examination when evaluating constipation and fecal incontinence
- Define alarm signs and symptoms suggestive of organic pathology that requires further evaluation
- Identify an optimal laxative regiment for various clinical scenarios
- Define integrative medicine and describe a framework for an integrative approach to abdominal pain
- Describe multiple complementary therapies for abdominal pain
- Experience mind body therapies that are commonly used in the care of patients with GI disorders
- Define GERD-like symptoms in infants and distinguish from uncomplicated reflux (GER)
- Learn to recognize dysphagia and stare dysregulation as contributors to GERD-like symptoms
- Define the nutrients missing in various food elimination diets
- Discuss practical approaches to supplementing nutrient deficiencies found in elimination diets
- Discuss ways to provide adequate calories in the setting of different elimination diets
- Define temporal relationship between GI and autonomic symptoms
- Discuss the role of co-morbidities as they relate to the evaluation and treatment
- Discuss the value of symptom questionnaires and patient reported outcomes (PRO) measure in assessment and clinical care
- Define the diagnostic tools available and understand when to use them and when not
- Identify the common causes of chronic diarrhea
- Develop a focused diagnostic approach and appropriate testing to evaluate the cause of chronic diarrhea
- Dietary do’s and don’ts when treating chronic diarrhea
- Discuss age-related differences in the presentation of eosinophilic esophagitis
- Define diagnostic criteria supporting the diagnosis of EoE
- Define long term complications of EoE
- Recognize current available therapies for EoE: elimination diets vs topical (swallowed) steroids
- Define entities of cyclic vomiting syndrome and abdominal migraines as migraine variant conditions
- Describe clinical characteristics suggesting the diagnosis of a migraine variant condition
- Define current diagnostic testing: utility and limitations
