Overview
This one-day symposium presented by the Divisions of Urology and Nephrology is designed for healthcare providers interesgted in discussing the latest recommendations for the management of common urologic and nephrologic conditions. For this installment, we present lectures on testicle and groin issues, hydrophrenosis, circumcision and buried penis, hypertension, UTI and reflux, acute kidney injury, common bladder issues and hematuria and proteinuria.

Objectives
- Describe the timepoints of gonadal descent and the postnatal management of undescended testes
- Describe the possible diagnoses for acute scrotal pathology and how they differ in management
- Recognize the key elements of and tips and tricks for performing a groin and scrotal exam
- Review epidemiology and common etiologies of hydronephrosis
- Review grading/classification systems of hydronephrosis
- Review initial management of hydronephrosis, including when to use prophylaxis, when and what to image, and when to refer to urology
- Describe common penile anatomic variants
- Recognize suitability criteria for newborn circumcision
- Identify common adverse circumcision outcomes and recognize when to refer to a urologist for management
- Review diagnostic criteria of febrile UTI and appropriate methods of urine collection
- Discuss indications for obtaining VCUG/CEVUS, patient experience as it relates to VCUG/CEVUS and grading system for VUR
- Discuss natural history of VUR, the use of prophylaxis and indications for surgical treatment
- Provide an opportunity to ask questions and present cases to experienced pediatric urologists
- Foster relationships between pediatricians and pediatric urologists in order to identify unmet needs and discuss ongoing partnerships
- Discuss changing epidemiology of Pediatric Hypertension
- Identify incident hypertension, including white coat and masked hypertension, and initiate an evaluation for etiology
- List the recommendations for blood pressure monitoring and referral for patients requiring further blood pressure management
- Define acute kidney injury (AKI) and identify causes
- Discuss the prevalence of AKI in hospitalized children and how it can affect their short and long term outcomes
- Monitor patients with history of AKI for development of chronic kidney disease
- Utilize urine analysis to appropriately screen children for nephro-urologic disororders
- Utilize simple strategies for initiating effective voiding behavior modification and bowel management
- Discuss when to refer and the resources available through the Lurie Children’s Bladder Function Improvement Training (BFIT) Program
- Initiate a work up for hematuria and appropriately seek urology versus nephrology consultation
- Differentiate between transient, orthostatic,nephrotic and non-nephrotic proteinuria and their differential diagnoses
- Identify lower urinary tract dysfunction and its many manifestations including urinary incontinence/nocturnal enuresis, urinary frequency and recurrent UTIs
