Pediatric Pearls: Adolescent Medicine

Overview

This one-day symposium is designed for healthcare providers interested in learning about topics that some of their adolescent population patient will encounter at some point in these important developing years. Everything from skin conditions to substance abuse to anxiety will be addressed. Taking it one step further, the program will also feature experts to discuss other sensitive but timely issues such as STDs/STIs, female issues and healthcare concerns for the gender-diverse youth.

Objectives

  • Summarize the trends in tobacco and marijuna products and their use
  • Review the association between somatic complaints and anxiety in adolescents
  • Develop strategies to address adolescent anxiety in a primary care setting
  • Review common pediatric gynecologis disorders and decide when a referral is necessary
  • Review diagnosis and treatment of common vulvar complaints in the prepubertal girl
  • Identify categories of acne vlugaris and its mimickers
  • Discuss guidelines for treatment based on categories of acne vulgaris
  • Define key terminology related to gender and sexuality
  • Differentiate between developmental trajectories of gender dysphoria in children and adolescents
