Developmental Care Conference: NeuroNICU Concepts for Every NICU

Purpose

NeuroNICUs are being established in tertiary-level NICUs all over the world.  However, the central concepts of the Neuro-Conscious NICU are applicable to every NICU.  This one-day conference will highlight key concepts for establishing a Neuro-Conscious NICU as well as interventions you can immediately apply to support the developing brains of infants in your care.

Target Audience

All NICU professionals including Physicians, Nurses, Advanced Practice Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Respiratory Therapists, Child Life Specialists, Social Workers, Developmental Specialists and Family Support Specialists.

Objectives

  1. Discuss how the NeuroNICU concepts are applicable in every NICU.  
  2. Describe components of comprehensive neuro assessments and monitoring. 
  3. State two potential consequences of trauma in infants.
  4. Identify two potential benefits of music therapy for NICU infants.
  5. List three or more neuro-protective interventions you can implement in your NICU.

Kathi Salley-Randall, RN, MSN, NNP, CNS-BC.  Kathi has extensive experience establishing Neuro-NICU programs throughout the US and internationally.

Mary E. Coughlin, RN, MS, NNP.  Mary is an internationally recognized expert in the field of trauma-informed age-appropriate care for NICU infants.

Occupational Therapists
